The Region of Murcia is one of the most popular destinations for golf in Spain. There are many golf courses and with year round sun, golfers can escape the harsh winters in the UK to enjoy a round of golf on some beautiful golf courses. Villamartin is a much sought after destination for UK golfers and attracts many from Scandinavia and in more recent years, like the Brits, they have invested heavily into holiday homes in the Murcia Region. So, make no mistake, although the Plaza in Villamartin is traditionally Spanish it has certainly got a cosmopolitan feel about it.
The infamous La Manga Golf Resort is one hour away by car. A very easy drive down the AP7 Motorway but booking is essential at all times of the year. However, you will find that there are enough quality courses around Villamartin to satisfy your golfing apetite. I have listed five of my favourite courses within a very short drive of Casa Nabucco. Green Fees change throughout the year. Generally there are two main seasons but these can change with different courses. Low Season is January, February, June, July, August, September and December. High Season is March, April, May, October and November. It is important to note that it is cheaper to book and pay for your green fees through golf booking agents. To our knowledge there are two main agents in the Villamartin area, Albatros Golf Agency www.albatrossgolftours.com (Located in Los Dolses Commercial Centre about one mile from Casa Nabucco) and Costa Calida Golf Tours www.ccgt.co.uk (located in La Zenia about one and a half miles away). There are many deals to consider and I have found the Twilight Rates to be very good and the courses less crowded.
We have a set of left handed clubs and two sets of right handed clubs in the apartment which we are happy for you to use. At the moment Airlines are charging about £35 each way for a set of clubs. You can hire clubs from Costa Calida Golf Tours based in La Zenia, just a couple of miles away. The charges are €20 for the 1st day and then €15 for each additional day. Albatros Golf Agency also organise club rentals. There is also a club hire service in Alicante Airport www.clubstohire.com
LAS COLINAS GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB
This is my favourite course in the Region. The course stretches across a valley which is surrounded by prestigious villas and blends so naturally into the landscape. There is plenty of room on the fairways but you are punished heavily if you miss them. The clubhouse is so posh! It hosts the European Tour Qualifying School Tournament which really does speak for itself. Excellent - a course not to be missed. Watch the video and you will be impressed. I paid €40 with an afternoon Twilight Booking in February. You can pay up to €110. It is about a 10 minute drive away - 4 to 5 miles.
QUARA GOLF
I understand that Quara Golf is the parent company that owns La Finca GC, Las Ramblers GC and Villamartin GC . These are three fabulous courses.
I believe La Finca to be the best with its large and forgiving fairways and long par 4s. It has large and fast greens , some on different levels and plenty of water hazards to make your game very challenging. This course is about 25 minutes from Casa Nabucco. Furthest away but well worth a visit.
Las Ramblers GC, Opened in 1990, has been developed on a steep terrain and surrounded by water hazards. Many golfers have commented that the key to playing well here is by opting for accuracy rather than distance off the tee. The course is 10 minutes by car from Casa Nabucco.
Villamartin Golf Club is just a 10 minute walk from the apartment. It is one of the most established courses on the Costa Blanca. It provides a circuit for all skill levels to enjoy since it requires the use of every club in the bag. The greens are wonderfully designed and as such, the club has attracted very important national tournaments over the years. Including the Volvo PGA European Tour and the European PGA Challenge Tour. A great club house and practice facilities that I often take advantage of.

CAMPOAMOR GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB
This is a lovely looking course and is close to Las Ramblers Golf Club. About 3 miles away. It has very good practice facilities with a large driving range and a short game practice area where I have spent a fair few hours in the sun. Once again, the Twilight Green Fees are good and the course appears to be fairly quiet in the afternoons. Very generous fairways and a pleasure to play - it's all in front of you as you play each hole with no shocks.
